The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
