Vonn underwent a surgical implant installed in her right knee throughout her hiatus from the sport.

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after securing a podium spot for the fourth time in five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Competing at the iconic venue for the first time in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm happy with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 following a partial knee replacement.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She already possesses an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has secured over a career spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit features a nine more events taking place before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
