Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was found guilty of orchestrating a armed takeover in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a safety action after "new facts" came to light.

This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a summons to a public vigil that could enable a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the magistrate said information from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his getaway".

This, it said, would be assisted by the confusion caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His offspring, Flávio, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your nation, or see it all from your smartphone there on your couch? I invite you to battle with us."

He said the gathering would be so supporters could seek divine intervention for his well-being and for the return of democracy in our nation."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the judge's decision was the potential of his "relocation to embassies near the dwelling, considering that the probes revealed a record of arranging to request asylum through a consular facility", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork highlights that the US embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is situated around 13km from the former president's residence.

International Reactions

His judicial problems have provoked anger from fellow right-wing populist US President President Trump, causing him to implement a half-rate duty on Brazilian product imports.

The former president is being detained in a federal law enforcement building in Brasilia and will have a custody hearing on the following day.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to allow him to complete his entire prison term under domestic detention, with tracking devices.

They also asked that Bolsonaro be allowed to exit his dwelling for medical treatment, saying he demanded ongoing care for pulmonary infections and other health problems.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was determined responsible of leading a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he lost the presidential race to his ideological adversary, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he was aware of a plan which encompassed plans to assassinate his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been presiding over the former president's case.

The conspiracy was prevented because it failed to get the support of the army and air force commanders. The current president was took office without issue on 1 January 2023.

But a seven days after, on the eighth of January, numerous Bolsonaro supporters attacked and damaged public facilities in the national capital, Brazil's capital.

The law enforcement took action and around 1,500 people were detained.

The magistrates found that the rioters had been incited by him whose scheme, they said, was for the national armed forces to intervene, restore order and return him to office.

At the time, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until twenty-sixty - eight years after the completion of his term.

The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was aimed at blocking him competing in the next presidential race.
